Midtown’s landmark Kodak building to be reborn

Midtown’s landmark Kodak building has sold again, and the new owner is planning a major transformation.
Dr. Shahzad Hashmi has acquired 300 and 306 Ponce de Leon Ave., which includes the abandoned Kodak building and gay nightclub The Atlanta Eagle, according to real estate broker Johnny Gonzales with an affiliate of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.
The deal, which also included a parking lot on Argonne Avenue, just closed, said Gonzales.
Salveo Integrative Health, which Hashmi runs, will open its third location at the site, transforming the building into a modern wellness clinic that retains the landmark Kodak sign on its roof. The Atlanta Eagle will also remain, having recently signed a three-year extension, according to Gonzales.
The architect is Jordache Avery of XMETRICAL Architecture.
According to an announcement, Salveo will “treat thousands of clients in Atlanta through integrative treatment approaches including psychiatry, counseling, meditative arts and holistic programs.” Its other locations are in Lawrenceville and Flowery Branch, Ga.
The wellness clinic is expected to open in early 2018.
The Kodak building has sat abandoned for years. It last sold for $727,000 in 2014, according to Fulton County property records. But, no changes ever came to the building.
The building sits along a stretch of Ponce de Leon that has seen new investment in recent years with Ponce City Market and apartment projects including 131 Ponce.
“The transformation that will be in the works is nothing short of spectacular, and we feel will make Atlanta proud,” Gonzales said in an email to Atlanta Business Chronicle.
